Quick fixes
The alarm didn't go off
Vigil only watches while it's armed and open with the screen on — iOS pauses the camera when the app is in the background or the screen locks. Keep Vigil in the foreground while it's on watch. If a target was small or far away, raise the sensitivity (Low → Extreme) in Settings.
Sound detection isn't catching anything
Sound detection needs microphone access. Open the iOS Settings app → Vigil and turn on the Microphone. Sound is also off by default — switch it on in Vigil's Settings under "Detect". It listens for sudden noise above the room's normal level and deliberately ignores steady background noise and high-pitched sounds like birds, so very quiet or gradual sounds won't trip it.
I want a silent alert only I can hear
Wear a Bluetooth earbud (like AirPods) while Vigil is armed — the alarm plays only in your ear, a discreet alert nobody around you hears. Room monitoring still uses your phone's own microphone, not the earbud. Take the earbud out and the alarm is a loud siren again.
It's false-alarming
Lower the sensitivity for the target that's misfiring (People, Cars, and Sound each have their own). Vigil already ignores parked cars, swaying trees, and bird chirps — but loud voices, a TV, or nearby traffic can still trip Sound detection, so use it where the background is calm.
Restore a purchase / manage my subscription
In Vigil, open Settings → Restore purchases to re-activate a plan on a new device or after reinstalling. To change or cancel a subscription, use Settings → Manage subscription (this opens your Apple ID subscriptions). Billing is handled by Apple — we can't see or change it on our end.
The alarm is too quiet
The alarm overrides the silent switch and plays at your media (playback) volume, not the ringer. The side buttons only change that volume while audio is actually playing — so raise it while the alarm is sounding (or play any track and turn it up first). If a Bluetooth earbud or speaker is connected, the alarm plays there instead of the phone speaker.
